About me

Photography is a dream job for me!  I've loved all things creative for as long as I can remember.  I'd taken photography classes here and there but it wasn't until after we brought our son home in 2004 that I became a student of the art, reading everything I could get my hands on and talking to anyone who would talk to me about it.

After enjoying a successful 13 year career in Marketing for a major publishing company, I found myself wanting to take on the role of the creative vendors I was hiring.  I took the leap and left the corporate world to pursue some exciting design opportunities.  It was then that photography and documenting my own child's life through pictures became an addiction, a passion that I love to share with others.

As a Mom of two, I know how quickly time passes and how those memories we think we'll remember forever quickly fade over time.  Being behind the camera capturing moments of your lives, then coming home and creating pieces of art that will tell your story for generations to come has been such an incredible experience.  Every client, every session is different and unique so this job never grows old!

My most important job, however, is right here at home.  I'm a wife to an amazingly supportive husband (I should write that twice!), and an adoptive mom to two beautiful kids, Brendan (7) and Kyra (3), who keep me running but I wouldn't change a thing.  I'm also a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and neighbor, not always in that order but all major roles that make my life feel complete.

I was so happy when my cousin, Delaney, contacted me about doing a senior session!  She traveled here from the Albany area with just one request … to shoot at a location with horses.  No problem!  This was my first session with a horse and I’m not sure any future sessions with horses could go as well but Killian was a dream to work with!  The lighting was perfect, the weather was amazing, Delaney was up for anything and we had a great time!

Oh baby!  Look at that face.  Those cheeks.  Those lips.  She insisted on arriving fashionably late which unfortunately was when I was on vacation.  Mom and I were joking that she was holding on for so long but literally the day I left, she’d decide it was time.  Well, we weren’t too far off.  A couple days in and we received the news of her entrance into the world.  Welcome sweet Charlotte!

McAvoy’s 4th

Having grown up in a small city where a military base once played a huge role in the community, it’s been hard to top the memories I have as a kid spending July 4th with extended family and friends on the base.  Watching fireworks, eating delicious food, listening to live patriotic music of all kinds, eating scrumptious food, respecting the people, the flag and our country.  Oh, and did I mention the food? 😉  I’ve lived in the Hudson Valley now for 17 years.  (Wow!  I actually had to grab a piece of paper and do the math after calculating it in my head first because I didn’t believe it.)  Though I know I’ll never relive those memories or, sadly, give that experience to my own kids, I do think it’s important to have something they look forward to being a part of each year.

This year, still a transition year for our family with a new house, new neighborhood, new school, new town, we discovered one more reason to love our new ‘hood.  Our neighbors and friends threw what I think was a first annual 4th of July party and it was huge!  It was also a gorgeous, perfect day.  There was a bounce house, a huge water slide, kiddy pools, baseball, lacrosse, water balloons, beer pong, and numerous other outdoor games of which we don’t agree on names.  Top it off with the fact that we are on a hill and had an incredible view of fireworks around us from 3 different locations.  And if that wasn’t enough, an outdoor movie shown on a blow-up movie screen and projector that the kids all camped out watching in their sleeping bags.  Is there anything you didn’t think of McAvoys???

I would love to get tickets to the Boston Pops on the 4th one year!  But until then, we look forward to spending it right here on our own street.

MASON { HUDSON VALLEY baby PHOTOGRAPHER }

This little man had the best smile and kept smiling our entire time together!  His house in Millbrook gets incredible natural light so we spent most of our time in a beautiful room with great windows and gorgeous hardwood floors.  Mom and Dad are so calm, relaxed, and happy, it was truly a pleasure spending time with this beautiful family and I hope we get to work together again soon!

I AM SAM { HUDSON VALLEY COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHER }

When Sam of I AM SAM YOGA first contacted me about booking a session for photos to use on her website, I was very excited!  Not only because I was looking to do more commercial work but also because yoga is such a beautiful art.  Yes, it is an art and you know I am all over anything creative!  When I met Sam for the first time, she greeted me with a big hug that felt like an old friend.  I knew right away this was going to be a special session, she was excited and open to anything.  I always love working with clients like that because there’s a back and forth that builds throughout the session and it takes things to a completely new level very quickly.  Of course it doesn’t hurt when you have a beautiful model!  After a good hour and a half of climbing, slipping on rocks, and being places we really shouldn’t have been (all in bare feet, thank goodness for baby wipes!), Sam and I were ready to keep going. Unfortunately, the sun was refusing to give us any more time no matter how hard we asked.  Part of me wanted to go all Strobist and drive the van down because I think headlights would’ve made for some really incredibly shots but we were down at the waterfront and it wasn’t feasible at the time.  In the end, we caught lots of great stuff for her to choose from.  And it was a lot of fun!

WELCOME!

It’s been a looong time coming but I’m so excited to finally get this new blog up and running!  Though keep in mind it is, without a doubt, a work in progress.  I’m hoping to meet the many requests from not only clients, but also family and friends.  Keep checking back for sneak peeks, projects, updates on the family (let’s face it, you really only want to see the kiddos!) and lots of other good stuff coming up.  I want to hear from all of you on here so if you’re checking in, leave a comment … you know I looove comments!  Let’s have some fun!  🙂
